Come along with us for our #AgentInsider, as we explore hidden gems, the best dining options, our favourite shops, and more across southern Ontario! This month, we’re featuring the Yonge-St. Clair neighbourhood with Bosley Real Estate Agent Susie Sabapathy, who has lived in the area for over 22 years!

The Yonge-St. Clair neighbourhood is the heart of midtown Toronto, where culture and commerce combine for an emerging lifestyle destination unlike any other!

European immigrants initially settled in the area in the 19th century, and the neighbourhood began to develop rapidly after World War II during the housing boom. Fun fact: on the Corner of Welland and Rose Park Drive, you will see two pillars and unique lamp posts, originally the entrance and driveway to one of the first homes built in Moore Park!

In the late 20th century, the neighbourhood underwent further redevelopment, and many of the older houses were replaced with newer, larger homes and apartment buildings. Many historic buildings, like the Imperial Oil Building and 99 Foxbar Building, were also restored and converted into condo high-rises and townhomes.

Today, this coveted neighbourhood is known for its tree-lined streets and well-maintained homes. The area is also home to several parks and green spaces, including St. Clair Park, with a playground, sports fields, and a wading pool. The Yonge-St. Clair neighbourhood is considered one of the more affluent areas in Toronto and has a high concentration of professionals and families.

A fun fact about this neighbourhood - it’s home to famous artists Frances Loring and Florence Wyle! The two met as art students in Chicago in 1907 and moved to Toronto in 1913. Their works have gone on to be included at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery, and the War Museum in Ottawa. This husband and wife duo’s original home is located on Glen Road and is signified to the public today with a memorial plaque. To commemorate their art and history in the neighbourhood, you can also find statues of them inside the Loring-Wyle Parkette.
